Thank you for "Mommy Works" answers.......

I wanted to reply to the comments that I've received so far.

Okay, let's see.....let me first say I sure didn't mean for my question to sound rude, if it did, but I guess I've always wondered how the church feels about working mothers. What brought it up first was the book that I'm currently reading, Catholic Family Handbook. There are so many passages in there where it talks about the mother staying home, taking care of the home and kids, etc, but nothing about moms who might work. I think that's what made me feel guilty.

Lori, Thank you for your comment about me putting my family first. Yes, they are a top priority and I'm always looking for ways to make sure we're raising them right and exposing them to the right things. Thank you so much for your prayers. I have been focusing on praying that I hear God and listen to what he's saying. On my way to work in the mornings, I listen to Catholic radio and pray the rosary. It's a nice way to start my day. Today I really focused on listening to HIM.

Jen, You are so sweet to comment with all that you did. I really appreciate all the insight I have received as a result of asking this question. I love surrounding myself with faithful women/people to help encourage me in my journey and I believe that I am finding more now in you and Lori.

Thank you both for your comments!

This question is not closed. Please feel free to add your thoughts. I look forward to hearing them.

Stumbled upon your blog today...scrolling through "Catholic Mothers Online" list and randomly clicking...

Anyway, I am a convert (4/04) mother of 2 and am currently struggling with regards to homeschool vs. public school. ;-)

I will say that I quit working outside the home about 3 yrs ago and truly believe it was the best decision we've ever made! I was much like you, believing that I was a better mom when I worked. I believed I needed that outlet and the time for myself; however, God changed my heart. It was most definitely a leap of faith - financially and otherwise - to quit...but we did it. Our marriage is stronger and I have a better relationship with the kids.

Now my big dilemma is homeschooling. I tend to agree with you that most of the blogs I read are homeschooling moms and I begin to feel large quantities of guilt for sending my precious babies to someone else for their education. I began reading and thinking and praying over this issue last March. I highly recommend Kimberly Hahn's book, Catholic Education Homeward Bound as a great starting point.

I recently started my own blog and have posted on this issue twice in the last week...feel free to check out my thoughts and comment.

BTW - I'm in Texas too! :-) (north central to be a little more specific)
