Spring weather........

Why is it that the tornado sirens only seem to go off at 3:30 in the morning? My oldest daughter asked me that this morning while we were sitting in the pantry.

We were sleeping pretty good when we heard the first rumblings of thunder. That usually wakes Jay and I up pretty quick, mainly because we typically have visitors after thunder. He went downstairs to check he weather and within a few minutes it started hailing. It sounded like they were softball size, but they were reported to be quarter size.......still fairly big.

The baby woke up first. Even though I was a little nervous about the weather, I couldn't help but laugh. When it first started hailing I could hear Jacie say "uh oh." I guess she knew something wasn't right. I figured she wouldn't go back to sleep without a bottle, since it was so loud, so I went downstairs to fix her one. As soon as I got the milk out, the sirens went off. Jay was putting cushions in the pantry so I ran up to get the girls.

I ran in the baby's room first, flipped on her light and said "Come on, let's go." She started crying immediately. Then I ran to the big girls and said "Get up we need to get downstairs." My middle daughter got up and started walking downstairs, but my oldest just laid there. I had to loudly say "tornado sirens; let's go." That made her cry, poor thing, but at least she got moving.

We sat in the pantry for about 30 minutes when Jay came in and said it had passed. When we came out and looked at the radar, it looked awful. I've never seen so much white and black on a radar. I'm used to green, orange, red and maybe purple. I guess white and black are the really bad storms.

I don't know if it's worse being a kid and being in these storms or being a parent. Before I went to bed I was praying hard that if a tornado were coming, that GOD would wake me up in time to get all my girls. I think he did that by the HUGE hail that we got.

Come to find out, the sirens were sounded because of straight line winds and not a funnel cloud being spotted. I'm glad that our city was being proactive, but at the same time it was difficult to get the kids (and me) to go back to sleep after an adrenaline rush like that.

THANK GOD we're all safe and there doesn't appear to be any damage! GOD heard my prayer!!

Glad you guys are okay! Sounds like a rough night. How long before everyone went back to sleep? I bet it was hard getting everyone up this morning.

Thanks for the story and the post. Love you, Andrea

Oh, tornadoes scare me more than anything. Too bad, considering where we live. All of our kids ended up in our room due to the storms. No sirens here though, thank goodness. Of course, I sit awake in fear anyway. Silly.
